November 19, 2019
Main Street will be shut down starting tomorrow (11/20) at 4am for the installation of brick paver crosswalks. It will reopen at approximately 10am on Thursday (11/21). Additionally, traffic lanes will be changing on State Street for the removal of the 2nd half of the crosswalk.

During the past week:

SPECIAL CONSTRUCTION ALERT:
BGMU Water is going to be replacing the 140 year old 8" water main that runs parallel with the buildings along Main Street. This is a BGMU project that will be in conjunction with the BG Downtown Project and will take at least 3 weeks to be completed. Preliminary work such as fencing, layout, saw cutting, and mobilization for this water line replacement will begin Monday evening (9/2) and excavation will begin on Tuesday evening (9/3). BGMU will have all of the pipe ditches back filled each morning and parking will be available on Main street each day.
Also, please note that SMI will not be working on Main Street as originally scheduled, but will be working in the park and working diligently to keep and maintain the scheduled deadline for the project. Please be aware that the inside lane of Fountain Square Park nearest College Street will be closed indefinitely for demolition on Tuesday. The left turning lane at the intersection of Main Street and College Street will also be affected. Drivers will need to use extreme caution while traveling in this area and please follow road signs, as this will be a highly congested area.

Special Construction Update
May 28, 2019
Traffic Signals at the corner of State Street and 10th Avenue will be shut down on Wednesday morning (5/29) to install a junction box and new wiring to the signal heads. This outage should last no longer than 24 hours. Also, the interior lane of Fountain Square Park near State Street will be shut down in order to complete two road bores across State Street. The lane will be opened back up Thursday afternoon if we do not experience any issues.

Starting on Tuesday, May 21st, BGMU will be temporarily cutting the power to remove the street lights on State Street and Park Row. This will also shut off the traffic signals at the intersection of State Street and Park Row. The contractors will be installing stop signs at the intersection and vehicles will need to use caution while BGMU removes the light poles.

Starting on Monday May 13th, traffic and pedestrian light signals will be shut down at the corner of College Street and Park Row in front of Spencer’s Coffee. These will be down for at least 3 weeks. Vehicular traffic will need to yield for pedestrians and pedestrians will need to use caution when crossing the street at this location.
Special Construction Update
May 7, 2019
PARKING SPOT CLOSURE ON THE SQUARE-MAY 13TH & MAY 16TH.
HVAC units on the roof of the Capital Arts Building will be replaced during the above dates. The intent is to block spaces for the crane, as well as spaces so that traffic can be directed around the outriggers. The contractor will be bringing FlagPro or similar to provide the barricades, cones, signage, and flagging during the lifts. On May 13th they will be making 9 separate lifts to remove the units on the roof and 8 lifts on May 16th to replace them. During the lifts, traffic flow will be stopped, but will be allowed to clear once the unit is on the truck.
Please refer to the photo to the right, showing the proposed parking space closures and traffic control related to the replacement of the HVAC units on the roof of the Capital Arts Building.

BGMU will be removing 6 light poles on College Street from Mary Jane's Chocolates to 10th Avenue on Wednesday, April 24th. This will leave the area without streetlighting until the construction in this area is complete and new light poles are installed by BGMU. Pedestrians need to use caution when walking in this area after dark.

Construction crews will begin working night shifts beginning on April 28th and April 29th in order to complete the demolition of sidewalks and construct safe egress into buildings before 6:00 am. This area will begin at Wealthsouth Financial Services and will stop at The Night Cap.
