BELOW ARE COMMENTS MADE FROM THE INITIAL STAKEHOLDER MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 12, 2017
AESTHETICS:
Cigarette butts, litter, keep sidewalks clean, new equipment (like used at Oxford, MS), Pretty hanging lights like they have at the “kissing bridge”, classic Christmas décor like the City did in the early 1900’s.
PARKING AND TRAFFIC:
Need better designated parking, eliminate multiple merge lanes/single route around square, slant one-way parking requiring backing into spaces (safer departure), 2 way State and College, additional spaces for parking at State and College.
WALKABILITY:
Trip hazards and incorporate wayfinding signage.
SAFETY SUGGESTIONS:
Blind spots near walkways (overgrown/large vegetation) hide pedestrians, fix bricks all around Square, pedestrian refuge islands for crossings, repaint the curbs and crosswalks, lighting.
OTHER:
Small Business incentives to keep in business, use corner building at Park Row and College, need grocery store, what does the sign “no smoking except special events” mean, reduce unnecessary signage, reduce naming rights with the small tombstones (jumbled, trip hazard, busyness), need public restrooms.
